A port for resident and visiting international yachts, Opua is located in the Bay of Islands in the “winterless” far north of New Zealand and enjoys all the pleasures of nearby tourist resorts Paihia, Waitangi and Russell.

Besides yachting, the Bay of Islands offers kayaking, fishing, diving, dolphin and orca-sightings, para-gliding, walking tracks through bush reserves, golf, the Waitangi Treaty House and other historic sites, horse trekking and sandy beaches galore. Within a day's drive are the giant Kauri trees, early settler museums and other historic sites, local arts & crafts in abundance, Cape Reinga and Ninety Mile Beach, Ngawha Hot Springs, the internationally-renowned Kauri Cliffs golf course, and wineries. Nearby Kerikeri is New Zealand's #1 small city and is considered the fresh food capital of the country. Good restaurants are in abundance.

Opua is a three and a half hour drive from Auckland (New Zealand's largest city) and is also reachable by a 45-minute flight to nearby Kerikeri.

Northland enjoys a temperate subtropical climate (hence it’s nickname, the “winterless north”). A typical summer has long spells of sunshine, warm balmy evenings and runs from November to early April with temperatures ranging from 20-30°C (68-86°F). January and February are the hottest months. Winters (June-August) are mostly mild, with temperatures ranging from 10-16°C (50-61°F).
